Things to Do in Puerto Prinsesa Palawan

Planning to visit Puerto Prinsesa? You might want to book a weeklong vacation and include El Nido in your itinerary. You won’t regret it! 4-6 days is okay, just make sure that you will be able to squeeze El Nido in your schedule. It’s 5-6 hours away from Puerto Prinsesa by van, and 6-7 hours by bus. Here's a quick Palawan Travel Guide: (Click Here)
A few years ago, Cebu Pacific had multiple direct flights to Puerto Prinsesa, which is beneficial for Davaoenos. Unfortunately, the flights are now very limited. You also have other options like Davao-Manila-Puerto Prinsesa or Davao-Cebu-Puerto Prinsesa.
Puerto Prinsesa is just a small city. You can access everything by riding a tricycle. There are a lot of restaurants, bars, hotels, and establishments along the city proper. Most of the package tours are found outside the city proper.
There are a lot of package tours available. You can choose packages like 2days 1 night, 3 days 2 nights, and even 4 days 3 nights, with hotel accommodation and scheduled tours.
Here’s a list of the most common activities: (Prices may vary depending on the travel agency)
Firefly Watching – 1,10/person
Honda Bay Island Tour – 1,300/person
Underground River Tour – 1, 500/person
City Tour – 600/person
Dos Palmas – 1,800/person
Dolphin Watching – 1,100/person
Estrella Waterfalls Tour – 1,600/person
Tabon Cave Tour – 1,800/person
Ugong Rock Adventures – 700/ person (when combined with Underground River Tour Package)
Sabang Zipline – 500/person (when combined with Underground River Tour Package)
Underground River Tour, Sabang Zipline, Ugong Rock Adventures
The Underground River Tour is the highlight of Puerto Prinsesa. However, you need to travel for 2 hours by van and 15 minutes by boat to get to the underground river from the city proper. You have the option to try Ugong Rock Adventures or Sabang Zipline along with the underground river tour. The Ugong Rock Adventure includes an hour of caving and a 350-meter zip line adventure. The Sabang Zipline experience involves trekking a monkey trail for about 15 minutes and an 800-meter zipline towards an island. You’ll get a superb ocean view.
For the Underground River Tour, we all have the same opinion; Yes, the Underground River is one of the new 7 wonders of nature, but don’t expect too much. We will not spoil anything. Just appreciate the journey, enjoy the view, have fun, and lower your expectations upon entering the cave.
Honda Bay Island Tour
Opt for El Nido instead of the Honda Bay Island Tour. The island hopping tour is cheaper in El Nido and it’s way better than the Honda Bay Island Tour. We’ve seen a lot of beautiful Samal beaches, thus, the Honda Bay Island Tour didn’t impress us. El Nido is a smarter option.
City Tour
You must try the city tour. Your 600 php will go a very long way. You will visit a lot of beautiful places like Baker’s Hill and Mitra’s Ranch. You will be able to see everything that the city has to offer. The Immaculate Conception Cathedral is worth visiting. The blue-colored church is very lovely. You’ll drop by Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center as well.
Firefly Watching
Iwahig Firefly Watching is not that famous, but it’s something that we can suggest. It’s a night activity and the package already includes your dinner. From Baywalk, you’re going to ride a boat towards the mangrove, where the firefly watching activity is conducted. You need to transfer to a smaller boat for a superb firefly watching experience. If you are not that brave enough to cruise the river at night, you can stay behind and enjoy your extended dinner by the sea. The boat has built-in tables and chairs. You will be dining with your feet dangling a few inches from the waves of the sea.
The river is very calm and is surrounded by mangroves with fireflies lighting up like tiny Christmas lights. The boat ride is smooth and you will enjoy a clear view of the sky and stars. It’s simply breathtaking!
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to take good photos of your Iwahig Firefly Watching experience. It’s too dark and the fireflies just come and go. Nonetheless, the experience itself is worth remembering, even without good photos.
Restaurant Hopping
This is an activity that we just made up. Restaurant hopping is a fun experience in Puerto Prinsesa. Most of the popular establishments are affordable. Try Kalui. It’s the most famous restaurant in Puerto Prinsesa. The traditional Filipino style interior is superb. You need to take your shoes off before entering. You also need to lock in your reservations in advance. The place is always full. Bajao Seafood Restaurant is also a must try. The price range is a bit expensive, but it’s worth it. Try going there for lunch or before 6pm to appreciate the view of the floating resto. Other famous restaurants include Kinabuch Bar & Grill (the home of the yummiest tamilok and crocodile sisig), Bilao at Palayok (nice native interior), Ka Inato, and more. Complete your Puerto Prinsesa experience by trying tamilok (wood worm) and crocodile meat.
Palawan is a place that you shouldn’t miss. Save, save, save, and include Palawan in your travel destinations!
